Connection & Values
- What is one value you hope our home always has?
- What did your family do well that you want us to keep?
- How do you like to be comforted when you have had a hard day?
Dreams & Future
- What is a big goal you have not said out loud yet?
- What kind of grandparents do you think we will be?
- Which trip should be our next big adventure?
Everyday Life
- What is a small thing I could do that would make your mornings easier?
- Which shop, café or spot nearby feels like ours?
- What is your favourite way to spend a rainy evening at home?
Fun & Playful
- Which song should be our official theme tune?
- What would our perfect pizza have on it?
- If we opened a small business together, what would we sell?
Deep Talks
- What do you need from me when you are stressed?
- Is there something you have wanted to tell me but did not know how?
- What part of your childhood shaped you the most?
How to use conversation starters
- Put the phones away. Ten minutes of full attention beats an hour of half listening.
- Both answer. Take turns asking, and answer the same question yourself too.
- Ask a follow-up. "Why?" or "Tell me more" turns a quick answer into a real conversation.
- Skip freely. If a question does not feel right today, pull another one. No explanation needed.
- Make it a ritual. One question over Sunday breakfast or on date night is easier to keep than a long talk once a year.
Questions and answers
What are good conversation starters for couples?
Open questions that cannot be answered with yes or no work best, such as what made you feel loved this month or what a perfect lazy Saturday looks like. Mix light and fun questions with a few deeper ones.
How do you use conversation cards on a date night?
Put phones away, take turns pulling a card and let both people answer. Skip any card that does not feel right, and follow up with "why?" or "tell me more".
How often should couples have deep conversations?
There is no rule, but many couples like one longer talk a week, for example on a date night, plus a quick question of the day over dinner.
